Hi everyone,
I am travelling Europe this summer with a friend, using a youth Eurail global pass. However, this does not cover the Czech Rep. I had planned to travel from Munich to Prague, then a few days later take an overnight train to Budapest. Although I have been able to easily find out the times for these trains, I have found the cost for these very confusing and differing from site to site(as well as group rate, couchette rate etc.), and I am not sure of the cheapest way to go. I am also not sure whether I have to reserve before I go, or just booking 2 days in advance when I arrive in the cities is good enough. Does anyone have any information that might help me with this?

I used the train from Prague to Bratislava, then to Budapest. You can just buy the ticket at the station.
But if you want to be sure, you can buy it 1 or 2 days earlier.

The best thing to do is print out the itinerary you want and then just bring it to the ticket desk when you arrive in Prague for your departure to Budapest. I did that last fall and had no problems. I didn%26#39;t find that the ticket agents spoke English and since I didn%26#39;t know any Czech this eliminated any confusion. I bought first class tickets for the extra leg room/luggage room but sat in second class on another trip and it was fine just a little more cozy (sitting knee to knee with other people) and had to stow my bag above my head (and it was HEAVY). I didn%26#39;t do the overnight train however so can%26#39;t speak to couchettes.
My first class ticket for the day train from Prague to Budapest was 1889kr. That was in September 2007.
