which train station?

Hello

In the raileurope site Prague has two train stations:

Praha Hlavni Nadr

Praha Holesovice

The prices are different for overnight trains from amsterdam, and I am not sure why (one is 150 euros more for two people)?

Which is the better train station to arrive to?

Thank you so much

Hlavni nadrazni is the most central one,but depending on where you are staying it might be easier to go to Holesovice nadrazni.

this link will give you some info on Public transport in Prague ,info on the train stations and links to maps.

Hlavni nadrazi (Main station) is in the city centre, so more convenient. Take the cheaper option as they are not far apart. It takes about 5 - 10 minutes in a taxi between them.

There should be a big slogan at the top of this (and all other) forums - DON%26#39;T USE RAILEUROPE FOR YOUR TICKETS - you will pay way over the odds, and their information is rubbish. This is illustrated by the example that you have given. A second class ticket should cost 135 Euros each or thereabouts from Amsterdam, not including sleeper/couchette supplements. The overnight Amsterdam train (leaving 19:03, arriving 09:18) ONLY goes to Holesovice station.

You will probably be able to buy these tickets on the day in Amsterdam, but if you are there a couple of days before, buy them then - you probably can%26#39;t buy them on-line, anyway, as it is not a common way of doing it in Europe outside the UK.

Hope this helps!

Agree with GCEK about RailEurope, and also that you should purchase your tickets when you arrive in Amsterdam and not prior to your trip.

Sometimes the online train schedules can be a bit deceiving, and you really need to read the fine print or %26quot;Details.%26quot; For example, the train from Berlin to Prague also only stops at Holesovice, although on www.bahn.de (Germany%26#39;s official train website), it lists arrival times at both Holesovice and Hlavni Nadr. But if you read the fine print, you%26#39;ll see you that when you arrive in Holesovice, you must get off the train and transfer to the metro in order to arrive at Hlavni Nadr. The %26quot;arrival time%26quot; at Hlavni Nadr. is an estimated time based on that transfer by metro, but the train does not stop there. (At least it didn%26#39;t the two times I took it!)

This is the best rail planning site - it is user-friendly and accurate, and covers pretty much everywhere in Europe jizdnirady.idnes.cz/JRCis.asp?tt=c%26p=MF%26cl=E5

At 150 Euros each, that would be the most expensive metro ride in history!

I have to believe that difference of $150 is based on differing accommodations (or something!). I do often wonder, though, if anybody has ever stayed on the train in Holesovice thinking it was also going to stop in Hlavni Nadr...and then it didn%26#39;t. Would be interesting to know!

I have seen posts elsewhere - mainly on the Vienna forum - advising people to do just this!

However, on this particular train you would just get asked to leave as it is the final destination :)

On other trains, though, depending on the direction, you would have varying fortunes - you might end up in Usti nad Labem, which is not most people%26#39;s idea of a dream holiday, or Brno, the other way, in which you would have a great time. Many trains just terminate at Holesovice, especially the Inter City trains, as it is on a quicker route and cuts out the 20 minutes or so it would take to wind through the city centre.
