Trip Report

Just got back from 3 days in Prague. Had a fantastic time and didn%26#39;t get pickpocketed or ripped off by restaurant staff!!

Stayed at Union Hotel near Vysehrad (hotel reveiwed separately), got the 119 bus, metro and tram to the hotel from the airport- so easy and so cheap 26Kz.

Spent a lovely morning walking around Vysehrad, great views, not crowded and has an interesting cemetary.

Another great place is Petrin hill - again great views from the top and no tour groups. The walk up and down was lovely as all the trees are in blossom.

Enjoyed Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral, but it was very crowded, didn%26#39;t even try to go down the little lane (Golden lane I think) behind the cathedral as people were packed in shoulder to shoulder. Instead we wandered the little lanes of Novy Svet which is nearby and we were virtually on our own.

Had great food throughout our stay, must recommend the daily business lunch at Lary Fary in Dlouha, north of Staromestske Namesti. It is a really lovely 3 course lunch for just 199Kz - excellent value. Also I can recommend the Kolkovna restaurant in Vitezna 7 - the spinach and salmon salad was superb, Cafe Savoy - everything delicious and finally the Deminka restaurant Skretova 1 - good value pub food and a great atmosphere. Only regret was we didn%26#39;t have time to eat in Obecni dum, all their restaurants look fantastic.

I must admit I was a bit wary about going to Prague after reading some of the bad experiences people had had. However, I worried unnecessarily, it is a great city to visit, no less safe than any other big city as long as you have common sense.

Many thanks to all who gave me tips before I went.
