Czech Customs

Can anybody tell me what the situation is re taking liquid through security in Prague.

Looking to bring back a couple bottles of Absinth, can i buy this in the city then take through the security or will i have to buy in duty free?

if you pack it in your checked luggage (wrapped carefully) you will be ok ,but i think there is still a limit on carrying liquids in your carry on luggage.

must admit i found the prices for spirits at the airport pretty good ,on my last trip,got a good deal on Becherovka.

Thanks Unclegus,

We won%26#39;t be checking in any luggage, therefore may be best to purchase from the Duty Free.

if you are buying from the shops in the airport make sure they seal the bags,and keep then sealed till you get on the plane.

Becherovka?? I%26#39;m going to have to look that up....I%26#39;d love to bring back something that would be interesting to serve to my friends! Do you mix it with anything or just serve it straight up?

|||

Yeah, no liquids through security. If you get duty free, better be a direct flight, too.

Becherovka you can either drink neat, or with tonic (called Beton, which means %26#39;concrete%26#39; - simply an amalgamation of Be(cherovka) - Ton(ic) - nothing to do with the consistency of the drink itself)

The same with Fernet, but the mixture with tonic is known as, for some reason, %26#39;bavorák%26#39; (short for %26#39;Bavorské pivo%26#39; - Bavarian beer). %26#39;Bavorák%26#39; also means %26#39;BMW%26#39;. I prefer the lemon version %26#39;citron%26#39;, as it is easier to drink neat.

Off on a tangent, I know, but the question was asked!

Absinth should not be drunk under any circumstances :) By all means have some in your cocktail cabinet, but it is filthy stuff and it will stay there for a good few years.

%26quot;Yeah, no liquids through security. If you get duty free, better be a direct flight, too%26quot;

So if I%26#39;m flying from Prague to Amsterdam to Detroit, I can%26#39;t buy duty free from Prague??

Colleen,

Don%26#39;t plan on bringing Absinthe back into the U.S. We tried it this past Christmas and customs confiscated it in Detroit. It%26#39;s still illegal here in the U.S.

|||

aww....sorry about that. I wasn%26#39;t specifically thinking of Absinth, just any type of liquor that we don%26#39;t have here. But thanks for the tip....I%26#39;ll have to memorize the TWA website before I buy anything! :)

I%26#39;m not 100% sure -- but think there%26#39;s a good chance if you have to pass a security checkpoint at a different airport with any liquid, even from Duty Free of another airport, they would take it. For example, flying from Atlanta to Prague, the duty free liquids are delivered to you at the gate to ensure nothing is switched.
