3 days in August

We are spending 2 nights in Karlovy Vary and then 1 night in Prague, travel by train.

We also want to visit Loket.

Any advice on whether the visit to Loket is best taken enroute from KV to Prague, or as a day trip from Karlovy Vary.

Travel is with 3 young children - so any other must sees, restaurants etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

We went to Karlovy Vary with our two children last May, and visited Locket on a half-day trip from there. There are some travel agents offering day-trips there in Karlovy Vary, but we just took a taxi and went on our own. It%26#39;s only about 15-20 min drive from the town(I heard about guided walks from KV to Loket in the summer). It is a qiuant little town with a bijou castle, so 2-3 hours there are plenty.

P.S. Unless you have already booked the train from Prague to Karlovy Vary, I advise you to consider a coach instead. It takes neary four hours to get there by rail as opposite to 1 1/2 - 2 hours by coach.

Hi, I agree entirely: The bus is much preferrable to the train for the way from Karlovy Vary to Prague.

The train takes much longer and is not yet of Western European standards.

Loket is only 15minutes drive from KV but in the opposite direction of Prague (it%26#39;s the direction to the german border, Bavaria).

Best thing to do: take a taxi from the hotel to the castle directly. And order in advance with the hotel a return trip (if not it might be tricky to find a taxi over there.. it%26#39;s a village).

At the castle you can borrow a booklet in english. The castle is small and guiding tours very rare.

In KV you should not miss visiting the russian church, it%26#39;s really beautiful. For Czech Restaurants I would recommend not to go to one in the Spa area, but to the new city center which is 20minutes walking from the Spa area. Here you will find cheaper plates with real original food.

Have fun!
