Pickpockets in Palladium centre

I was in Prague 2 weeks ago to celebrate my 50th birthday. I was aware that thieves were operating in Prague, like any other city but thought I was careful and kept my wallet zipped in an inside pocket. Whilst having lunch however at the Aberdeen Steak Bar in the Palladium shopping Centre I had my wallet removed from this pocket whilst I ate. The culprits were 2 slightly dark skinned men who sat on the next table. How do I know this you might ask.Well at the precise moment that my pocket was being picked my son in law was taking our photo and the hand can be clearly seen inside my jacket but I felt nothing. As usual both the centre management and police were indifferent, just giving me a form for my insurance. I would guess these 2 can be seen everyday pulling the same stunt so beware. I was a regular visitor to Prague but will never visit again

That%26#39;s a shame, but a good warning for others. Restaurants of all kinds are very common places for pickpocket and bag stealing activity.

Diners hang valuables on the back of their chairs or put them underneath and there are plenty of distractions -- food, conversation, etc.

I can understand your bad feelings, but pickpocketing is rampant in many European capitals. Rome and Madrid stand out in my mind where I%26#39;ve seen it first-hand.

Hi, I am sorry to hear abt your incident in Prague. Me and my sis were there from 5th to 9th of Feb 08, we heard abt pickpockets too. And we were very careful throughout the days. Always look out for each other%26#39;s belongings, be very alert whenever strangers/locals walks by us or near us. Thank God nothing happened to us. We had a good time there as we continued our journey to Budapest....

We were also victims to an attempted attack. We enjoyed Prague, but as you, we will never return again. Who needs the stress of being on such high alert during your VACATION??? We have traveled extensively throughout Europe and have never felt this way in other countries.

Sorry to hear these stories. Some people are just unlucky. I have visited Prague about 10 times so far and have never had that so I think I keep visiting Prague. I%26#39;m not even a careful type, maybe just lucky.

Pickpockets are one of the ugly sides of Prague, as it is in many other tourist destinations. But with a bit of prevention and attention, you are perfectly safe from them.

Shopping centres and restaurants in them are specially %26quot;dangerous%26quot; because people get a false sense of security. You see guards all over the place, but they don%26#39;t bother with pickpockets they are there to prevent shoplifting.

On the street and public transportation the best thing you can do is keep your valuables in front of you. If you are carrying them in a backpack, put them all the way to the bottom of it. Don%26#39;t leave anything valuable in outside pockets or the back pockets of your trousers.

And if you see one of those bastards at work, comfront them, they are smart enought to go away and avoid any furthre trouble.

It%26#39;s bad luck and random chance.

I caught a guy with his hand in my pocket in Madrid, and had to run from a gang of small children pickpockets at Rome%26#39;s coliseum. Happens everywhere.

I never lost anything, so I didn%26#39;t have such hard feelings. But I understand the bad feeling that would come with a frightening personal experience.

My husband and I are headed to Prague in just over 3 weeks and we can not wait! Have hear great things about Prague and have been warned about the pickpocket issdue. I made sure that the bag I will be carrying tucks under my arm and has a good zipper. My husband has gotten a smaller wallet so he can carry it in his front pocket. Forewarned is forearmed.

I totally agree that this problem is not limited to Prague. We have friends that were in Rome a few months ago and the husbands wallet was lifted. It%26#39;s too bad that spaniard 99 is allowing it to limmit their experiences.

Where are tourists there are also pickpockets. If you avoid a city because of that, there is no capital in the world you can go to any more...

I guess you don`t cut your head of when you have a headache. I mean your solution is a little radical...

But it`s true that pickpockets are true %26quot;artists%26quot;. You can never be too cautious and at the same time you can never be 100% safe.

Just don`t carry much money with you
