Travel to & from Cesky Krumlov

We are planning on a two day stay in Cesky Krumlov between visits to Prague and Budapest. What is the best way to do it? I understand the train from Prague to Cesky Krumlov is 5 or so hours due to many stops. But I also am not looking forward to an all day drive to Budapest and would prefer the train for that leg. Is there a train from Cesky Krumlov to Budapest or do we have to go back to Prague?

Hi´,

the best you can do is to take bus from Prague to Cesky Krumlov, a diretc one from Florenc or Roztyly bus station. The journey ta´kes 3 to 3.5 hours max. Stay in cesky Krumlov overnight or even 2 nights as it is worthy especially in summer with lots of things to do (rver rafting, sightseeing, concerts etc). Then take shuttle bus from Cesky krumlov to Linz main railway station(operates daily, costs about 17 Eur per person) and there are fast trains to Budapest running at least 4 times a day (journey takes about 5 hours).

If you need more info contact me on kortusova@tiscali.cz

Good luck and best regards

By train from Budapest to Cesky Krumlov, you%26#39;ll have to go from Budapest to Linz (there are direct trains or you change in Vienna), then you go from Linz to Ceske Budejovice (capital of South Bohemia), and lastly change to the little local line to Cesky Krumlov.

Or you could get the direct train from Budapest to Prague and then the bus from there.

Whichever way you do it it will take about 12 hours, so it is best to break your journey up, either in Linz or in Prague - both are worth seeing.

Its more money but there are private travel companies.

www.prague-holiday.com They offer door to door service, cheaper than taxi but more than the bus or train.

In June, we are planning to travel from Prague to Cesky Krumlov, spend one night and then go back to Prague in time to catch a 3:00 pm flight to Dubrovnik.

I think this will be possible but would like some reassurance. Are buses better than trains? It looks like there are buses throughout the day...what time should we plan on leaving CK so that we get to the airport in time to catch our flight?

Thanks!

The bus is much quicker than the train if you get the direct one - in order to be certain of getting your flight and avoid changing you will need to get the 0705 bus, arriving at 0945, or leave at 0800, change at Ceske Budejovice, arrive Prague 1130. Later than that and you will miss your flight.

The train takes 4.5 to 5 hours, involves a couple of changes and you wouldn%26#39;t make it.

Thanks for the info. Can we buy bus tickets in advance or do we just show up at the station and get the tickets before we get on the bus?

|||

You can either buy tickets in advance at Florenc bus station, or just pay the driver/conductor when you get on. I recommend the first option though especially in high season. When I took the bus to CK last July 07, all the ticket holders boarded first, then the chance passengers were accommodated - some people got left behind.
