I will have a car and I%26#39;m looking for a hotel with reasonable rates and that has parking. I realize it%26#39;s the city center and may have to pay extra for parking but anything reasonable is fine :)

I think Ibis Old Town is the closest you%26#39;ll get to reasonable rates and parking in the city center: Prices 115 euros a night (starting high season April 1)-- breakfast is 10 extra. It has 25 underground spaces. I can%26#39;t tell if or how much they charge for parking.

Marriott nearby has parking, but rates are probably double.

Good suggestion Brewsta.
The Novotel next door is often not too much more expensive if you want access to fitness room and pool.
|||
sorry to be pedantic but the Novotel is beside the Ibis Wencelas Square on Katerinska...

Do you absolutely need a car? There is really no excuse for having a car in Prague - you will soon find out why and it will probably stay in the same (expensive) parking space for your entire stay.

GCEK, my visit to Prague is part of a 2200km road trip starting in Aachen, Germany and ending in Berlin. Unfortunately I am stuck with the car.
How about parking the car in a Park and ride at one of the stations and then taking the metro from there into the city center? I hear it is 100Czk additional to park overnight. Is it safe to leave my rental there?

Hmm. I think we have had this one before in another thread.
You will soon find out that it is an absolute nightmare unless you are seasoned, not only because the city just wasn%26#39;t designed with the car in mind, but also because I am presuming your car will have German number plates, which makes it an automatic target for police/petty thieves (same thing, really).
Parking your car at a metro station in a %26#39;park and ride%26#39; isn%26#39;t really an option if you want it to be safe, and definitely not parking on the street. You will really need to pay through the nose for somewhere that is absolutely secure.
As for finding a hotel with reasonable rates AND secure parking AND in the centre - something has got to give. However, if you are willing to look a bit outside the centre - Prague 6 (Dejvice/Hanspaulka) is probably your best bet, as it is quiet, safe, great views of the city and the centre is easily accessible by public transport. I don%26#39;t know what your budget is, but I have stayed in Hotel Praha before, which is a fabulous hotel and you can park there safely - the rack rates are certainly not reasonable, but there might be some good deals out there on the net (we got a room there for EUR80 last year - the best room we have ever stayed in). Or, at the other end, you can try Hotel Zlata Praha prague-hotel.ws/prague-hotel-zlata-praha.asp which I have stayed in as well, and is perfectly OK.
If you are coming from Germany this part of town is good too, as you will not have to pass through the city centre to get there both places are right off the main road down from the airport.
Just don%26#39;t be tempted to use your car while you are there as there is really no excuse - the trams and buses are quick, cheap and efficient.
Hope this helps!

GCEK, thanks so much for the input. I%26#39;ve noted that hotel.
Any comments on the Art hotel or the King Charles hotel?

I%26#39;ve decided to stay at Hotel Pav since I liked it very much. I will deal with the parking issue separately by finding a garage. Thanks all for the advice!

OK - good luck!
Just remember the main things about driving in the Czech Republic:
- don%26#39;t forget to get a motorway sticker at the border
- don%26#39;t forget to have your dipped full headlights on at all times
- don%26#39;t break the speed limit
- don%26#39;t get in the way of trams when you are in Prague - they stop for nobody.
- and don%26#39;t try and drive around Prague unless you really know what you are doing. Just park it in the hotel car park (apprently Hotel Pav has such a facility) and forget about it for the time you are there. Let the public transport do the driving for you.
Remember that with German number plates you will be watched more closely than others; fines are heavy and payable on the spot.
Otherwise - enjoy your stay!
