My trip to prague

Myself and my girlfriend came back from prague last week after a 3 day break,We had never been before and were a little nervous etc (both in our early 20%26#39;s) but what we saw and experienced in prague made our holiday or break a great time and we both would recommend it to friends and family etc.We stayed at the Savic hotel which was amazing and we would again recommend it to anyone! We also had an airport transfer (return) with www.prague-airport-transfers.co.uk/.The lady was waiting for us with a sign just in arrivals she was not very talkative during our transfer but this didnt matter as we were too busy looking out around us lol.She gave us a map on our arrival at the hotel and a return voucher which included a free 4 hour walking tour.She again picked us up on time for our transfer back to the airport. (100% reliable no problems )Again the hotel and staff were really good and the room we stayed in 206 was very beautiful with a painted ceiling)The hotel was in an ideal location and we walked every where! We spent a day up at the castle and surroundings(A must See in my opinion!) another at the jewish quarter and Wenceslas Square and another just all abouts lol we found few places down the back streets that we went back too and we got beer for 27 krowns the cheapest ,this was for a 0.5l as well.(we went back many times and i enjoyed the master dark!)We had no trouble only one thing we saw was some guy walking around the old square at night asking if we wanted any hash etc.didnt bother us.We saw quite a few beggers ,but they are so how do i say(humble) not upfront like here in the uk they just sit there with there hands out looking at the ground where as in the uk you get full on confrontation lol We saw pretty much all the sites with in walking and we were tired most days.We ate in the hotel restaurant which was decent food for the price.So much to tell but i will leave it for you to discover if you go there.Overall we loved it and thought the people were friendly and polite.We also noticed the streets were really clean etc (which is a real credit to find.any way hope you enjoyed this insight to our trip and we fully recommend it.cheers

Hi Chris,

Do you mind me asking who you booked your hotel through and how much it cost?

Me and my boyfriend are looking for a fairly central hotel for a 3 night stay in April.

Thanks

great to read your report my husband %26amp; I are going there for 1st time next week i was a little nervous as have read so much about rip offs %26amp; pick pockets but reading your report has certainly eased my concerns thanks :)

Hi, Iam glad you enjoyed time in Prague! about the beggars - actually this is well working %26quot;mafia%26quot;. each beggar has own %26quot;area%26quot; and all the money go to pimps in the end of the day. One TV reporter wanted to beg for a day in the centre. He sat on the pavement and after few minutes, two fat big gypsy guys came {he had a hidden camera} and told his to get off otherwise some beating will come. Therefore they are not offensive like in the UK.

about pickpockets. If you watch your stuff well, NOTHING can happen. Btw, Vienna has 3 times more reported pickpocket cases than Prague, where more tourists is coming. Unfortunately this %26quot;Stamp%26quot; was created in 90%26#39;s and still holds on. But of course, there are pickpockets, just be careful.

Vcelak, this information about beggars - how old is it? There was a time, when the city was full of beggars, specially guys with missing limbs, they belonged to a mafia. But these are gone. Begging is forbidden now and the police is pretty rigid, when they come across one. The beggars I see, I %26#39;know%26#39;, meaning I am familiar to them because I have seen them for many years. I don%26#39;t think they belong to a mafia circle, they are simply living on the street.

On second thought, I remember some young guy pretending the have a limp (I thought), begging quite agressively. But that was only one.

hi martina {btw very nice photo}, well my info is few years old, didn%26#39;t know the situation has changed. thanks for update! I think much worse are the young gypsies offering Novy prostor magazine in Florenc metro station. they are extremely annoying and can become agressive. But this is more issue for locals than for tourists, right?

|||

Thanks, vcelak. I do buy NP regularly, but not from the aggressive guys - I really hate aggressive begging!

A young woman asked me the other day for money and I said no. The turned and walked away and I watched her doing so, wondering, if I should have given her money, that she looked sad and I felt a bit guilty. She turned around, saw me watching her - and she spit into my direction!?!

actually the NP is a good business, the sellers have contracts with the NP so they actually are employed and the magazine earns money for the people managing NP. It is not like that the only money the seller has is the 50% of the magazine price. They get normal salaries. So it actually lost it%26#39;s former purpose. Unfortunately people don%26#39;t know this much and I think it is a shame cause many social aimed projects are just waste of money (either czech governmental grants or EU funds money).

Wow, that is interesting. If you are right, the last NP has been bought by this one. Thanks for the info!
