Train from Prague to Salzburg

Hi

We are planning to go to Salzburg after our trip in Prague. I am confused about how to go there. Since we have small kids, its impossible for us with too many changes in the train. Is there a night train with private cabin that we can take from prague to salzburg. That is best for us as then we do not have to change the train and the kids are less bored through out the journey.

Also, is there one such train from Berlin to Prague?

Which region is better to travel in the day time as we do not want to miss out on the scenary.

Unfortunately Salzburg is not easy to reach from Prague by train - there is one daily direct train, but it arrives at midnight, which is not really convenient for you.

The only other option isn%26#39;t that convenient either - it involves leaving Prague at 0611, ariving Linz 1106, departing 1116 (quite a tight connection, but the connecting train should wait) arriving Salzburg 1227.

All the other connections require several changes, and there are no night trains.

Salzburg has become very kitschy in recent years and it seems that all you can get there are lederhosen, dirndls, Mozart Balls and Sound of Music %26#39;souvenirs%26#39; - it is OK for an afternoon, but can soon get a bit overwhelming, which is a shame as underneath it all it is quite a nice place. It is a fine example of %26#39;death by tourism%26#39;, which is what hangs over places like Prague and Cesky Krumlov in the not too distant future, or maybe it has already arrived, but there is not much that can be done about it :) wikihost.org/wikis/…death_by_tourism

I forgot to add - the train from Berlin to Prague is very straightforward. It takes approximately 4.5 hours and goes every 2 hours from Hauptbahnhof from 0846 to 1646.

Unfortunately the scenery isn%26#39;t much to write home about until you get past Dresden when it becomes very pleasant (no Alps, but a nice river valley - River Elbe). On the Salzburg train the scenery is Ok after Linz, but again not amazingly spectacular as you are entering the foothills of the Alps - the serious scenery is if you go into Switzerland or through Northern Italy.
