Hi!
I%26#39;m thinking about visiting the Czech Republic in May and possibly going to Cesky Raj. I know about www.cesky-raj.injo/en/ but I think it%26#39;s difficult to get some hard infomation. Instead I%26#39;ve decided to try here.
How many days do people usually spend up there? What treks are recommended? Where should you get accomodation? What are the best way to get from/to Prague?
I%26#39;ve been thinking about flying into Prague Saturday afternoon.
Sunday: Go to Turnov in the morning. Somehow (maybe walk) to Mala Skala and through Vranovsky Ridge and Frydstejn to Drabovna and back to Turnov to spend the night there.
Monday: Go to Hruba Skala and on to Trosky and maybe stay in Ktova.
Tuesday: From Ktova to Prachovske Skaly and Jicin and from here back to Prague.
Fly out of Prague Wednesday morning.

God, you are hardly %26quot;insane%26quot; for wanting to visit this beautiful area. But coming from Odense, I know you%26#39;re OK.
Anyhow, look at this web site: …czechtourism.com/133premier/…newsr09.htm
It gives you a map of this %26quot;Bohemian Paradise%26quot;.
Take a bus or train to Mlada Boleslav. Mlada Boleslav is not what you want to visit, though. It is an industrial town --- home of Škoda --- on the edge of the %26quot;raj%26quot;. It sits high over the Vltava. From here you can get tips on where to go. It will help if you speak %26quot;tysk%26quot;.
Since you are into trekking and nature, you really should also consider a week in %26quot;Šumava%26quot; (Bohemian Woods). This is in South Bohemia. The tourists all head for Český Krumlov, but you need to go a little further on the little, old-fashioned train to Volary and head out from there.

Thanks for your inputs! I don%26#39;t have that much time in the Czech Republic so it comes right down to a straight choice between Cesky Raj and Sumava. How come you speak a bit danish? :-O (To others: %26quot;tysk%26quot; means german in danish)
So, go to Mlada Boleslav and get some tips... Where would you go if you were going to Cesky Raj for a few days?

Finally someone interested in Cesky Raj! I love that part of the country. I highly recommend Hruba Skala - very intriguing and beautiful with all the rock formations, forests, etc. Lots of walking there.
How many days do you have in the country?

I%26#39;m flying into Prague saturday afternoon, so I can go there sunday morning. I have to go back in the beginning of the week, I%26#39;m thinking tuesday or wednesday. The plane leaves at around 10am so I prefer to leave Cesky Raj in the afternoon/evening and spend the last night in Prague. That should leave me with the best of 2 - 3 days in Cesky Raj. But the thing is I don%26#39;t really know where to go and what to see there. My initial plan was as outlined in the first post (it still is), but I%26#39;m looking for someone to comment on it and say %26quot;One day will do!%26quot;, %26quot;A week is not enough, you should also go there and there%26quot; etc.

OK. To get a really good taste I believe you need three days. Five days would be ideal. If you want I can post various things to see (i.e. rock formations, towns, attractions, etc.). However, your itinerary does look very good and manageable.
For the life of me I cannot recall the name of the place we stayed in two years ago several miles from Melnik, I believe. My mind is drawing a blank. We happened upon it accidentally and are so glad we did! It is located in a very rural area behind a river. Tranquil, isolated and gorgeous. It is a B%26amp;B. You walk to breakfast to another building. I am doing some searching. If I recall it was only about 50-60 euros but may be less for one person. It is also pretty close to a lovely hike up to a castle.
There are several B%26amp;B%26#39;s at Hruba Skala - it is a gorgeous place to stay. I cannot comment much on Trosky as we did not stay overnight there.

My itinerary is just a first idea, so I%26#39;d definately want you to post various things to see. My plans for spending the nights are based entirely on what I thought I do in Cesky Raj and then divinding the route into 3. I have no idea whether I should look for accomodation elsewhere then Turnov and Ktova. Do any of you have more information about accomodation? Is it wise to have taken care of it from home - and how do you do that - or do you just show up and find something there?

How come I speak a little Danish? Well, I don%26#39;t have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times I have visited Denmark, one of my very favorite places on God%26#39;s Earth. I have a very good friend originally from Brøndby Strand, who then moved to Solrød Strand.
Because I speak tysk as one of my languages, I sit at the breakfast table reading the Copenhagen newspaper. I actually could understand most articles and would ask for %26quot;help%26quot; once in awhile with a strange word.
However, I still cannot properly say %26quot;rod grod med flode%26quot;, so I don%26#39;t claim to %26quot;speak%26quot; Danish.
