Leaving soon with 85yr old - panic on my part

For better or worse I%26#39;ve decided to go to Prague with my 85 year old mother, partially to meet distant family that we have never met before. (But several generations, now deceased, have written over the years.) We are staying at K+K Hotel Fenix, Ve Smeckách 30, 110 00 Prague 1 partially because the week included transfers to and from the airport (among other things).

We arrive after a direct flight from NYC at about 6:30 AM on Wednesday morning. I%26#39;m in a bit of a panic about how my mother will get around to restaurants and sights. What is close by, and relatively inexpensive, for a restaurant? On Thursday I%26#39;m going to sign us up for a tour with premiant to Karlovy Vary because my mother wants to go to the spas (www.premiant.cz to TOUR 10 - KARLOVY VARY - Becherovka Museum and Moser Crystal Shop - 9,5 Hours)

On Friday we will %26quot;tour%26quot; Prague with our relatives, meaning they will know what is best. Sunday will be Church and the Ballet with them. They had invited us to stay with them for a few days, but not knowing their living situation and having already made hotel reservations, we thought it better to stay at the hotel.

My other panic is that I need to buy a European SIM card (my phone has already been unlocked) and worry about buying metro tickets - for how many days, routes and how much additional walking will be required for my mother to see some of the main sights. I know that after the first day or two I%26#39;ll be fine, but it%26#39;s the last minute panic before I go (and leaving my husband home with my young twins) that has me flustered. So, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mother of Twins

Hi 2003mot

If I can offer you only two words of advice it is

DONT PANIC !! !

Speaking as an 84 year old who is just about to visit Prague (with his lovely 81 year old wife) can I just state the obvious?.

Rely on your local relatives to pick tourist sites that are easy on the legs and dont be afraid of asking your Ma if she thinks that she will be up to any particular visit.

Don%26#39;t attempt either staircase to Prague Castle, us oldies don%26#39;t like heavy climbs, lash out on a taxi.

The ballet sounds fine, we have booked for the Sleeping Beauty at the Estates Theatre and a concert at the Municipal House.

Your hubby will also cope fine..... that%26#39;s why you married him :)

Relax %26amp; Enjoy and tell us all about it when you return

Lots of luck

Ron

As stated by the last poster dont panic.....

Walking from site to site is a gem with lots of places to stop for a coffee and watch the world go by. Wear flat shoes...

Away from tourist areas down side streets you will find many eateries inexpensive and fabulous food. Rest assured that any place serving food no matter what the price is checked by health and safety. (cant remember their proper title), but do know that the penalty is heavy for breaches.

There are so many mobile phone shops in Prague that you will get a sim card to suit your needs.

24 hour travel card for the metro, bus and tram costs 100 krs, can be bought at the metro. Dont forget to validate it when you get it. Machine is right beside the kiosk.

Take a deep breath. You husband is going to enjoy being a full time dad for a while. You are going to spend quality time with your dear mum. You are traveling to a beautiful city which is exciting. You will be meeting family members that you have not met before.

Comfortable shoes is a must. The cobblestone streets are not made for fashion when walking around all day.

Your mother is going to love Prague. Have a wonderful vacation.
