Trip from Prague to Punkevny Jeskyne

In october i%26#39;ll visite Prague from 11 days. I find a nice hotel in Mala Strana, near Prague Castle. I want to make some trips outside Prague. I find solutions for Karlovy Vary, Kutna Hora, Karlstejn Castle and Cesky Krumlov by Martion Tour, but i can%26#39;t find any agency offering trips to Punkevny Jeskyne (I want to visite caves part of Moravsky Kras). I try to find in older subjects in forum, but i failed.

Can you help me?

Thanks a lot!

it%26#39;s probably too far from prague for a day trip. try tour agencies in brno...

It is too far from Prague for a day trip, but don%26#39;t let that put you off - get an early train to Brno and from there to Blansko. Trains go all the time and cost 33 Crowns.

For train times refer to this: jizdnirady.idnes.cz/JRCis.asp?tt=c%26p=MF%26cl=E5

There is an excellent hotel called Hotel Skalni Mlyn http://www.smk.cz/uk/skalak/skalak.htm which is right next to the caves/cable car lift to the abyss, etc. It is about 40 Euros for a double room and is very comfortable.

This should cover all the information you should require www.moravskykras.net/en/moravian-karst.html

Beware - the tours of the underground river Punkva sell out extremely quickly (I have been there in the depths of winter and -20C and it has still been full), but if you can%26#39;t get on that there is plenty more to see - the Katerina cave never %26#39;sells out%26#39; - just remember to bring some warm clothing as it can get a bit chilly in there, and the abyss is open all the time :)

If you need any more info, let me know.

I give uo for seeing moravsky Kras this time. maybe next visite!

But I have another question: I have 4 options for day trip:

- Karlovy Vary

- Kutna Hora

- Karlstejn Castle

- Cesky Krumlov

But I can made only 3 of them. What is the best choice (3 of 4)?

Thanks!

I%26#39;d give Kutna Hora a miss, although Cesky Krumlov for a day trip might be a bit too far...

Come to think of it, Macocha could be done in a day, but you%26#39;d have to make an early start - it is well worth it, and only costs 150 Crowns for an unforgettable tour.

There is a direct train at 0538 (told you it would be an early start!), arrive 0848, or 0606, change at Ceska Trebova - arriving on the same train as before at 0848.

From Blansko station you can get the bus up to the caves - there is plenty of information at the station, and you can book tickets there as well. It is best to get there early in case of disappointment. If the Punka is booked out then there is plenty more to do and see there.

Back again - direct train at 1709, arrive 2019

That should give you plenty of time.

My opinion on your other plans:

- Karlovy Vary - Probably not a day trip - it is 3 hours by train, and you would need a couple of days to soak it in.

- Kutna Hora - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kutná_Hora only 1 hour from Prague by train, an excellent day out. Do a search on the other posts in this forum for more info. Don%26#39;t miss the bone church in Sedlec http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedlec_Ossuary

- Karlstejn Castle. Easy to get to by train - several departures daily with a bit of a walk from the station. Impressive-looking castle from the outside but the interior tour is personally not my cup of tea as all castles seem to be the same :)

- Cesky Krumlov - you really need a couple of days to do this justice, and during the day it can be swamped by day-trippers. It is much more pleasant at night and early morning. It would take longer to get to than Macocha as well (about 4.5 hours by train - a bit quicker by bus)

Of the above, I would do Macocha, Kutna Hora and I%26#39;m going to throw another one into the equation - Telc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telč - it%26#39;s another early start, but it is perfect for a day trip as it is not full of tourists and you can have the place almost to yourselves. It is a hidden gem and is totally overlooked by people rushing to get to Cesky Krumlov. 0620 departure from Prague Roztyly by bus, arrive 0930 (or there are later buses). Back again dep. 1550, arrive 1755 (and there are a few others in the afternoon) - it has a beautiful renaissance main square surrounded by pastel-coloured houses and a little castle with an interesting art gallery. It is extremely picturesque.

For those day trips I found an interesting offer at Martin Tour Agency, so I%26#39;m not treveling by my self. Until 20th of september is enogh time, so I can change my mind about those destinations :P

Tours are all very well, but you will be following a red umbrella for all the time that you are there, apart from when you are cramped up in a bus. I personally much prefer doing these things by myself as, armed with a good guidebook, you get so much more out of it.

Don%26#39;t let anyone tell you that a couple of hours is enough for Cesky Krumlov or Karlovy Vary - you will spend the best part of the day travelling anyway (about 7 hours - they don%26#39;t tell you that on the website), and you really need a couple or three days to enjoy it. Otherwise you will just be another one of those coach parties, and you will have to go to the restaurants that they choose, or they might just give you a soggy egg sandwich to keep you sustained :) - and all this for a hugely inflated price.

For example - Kutna Hora is only 1 hour by train - there is one at 0953, arriving at 1056, coming back depart either 1459 or 1659, arriving 1605 or 1805, respectively. These are the %26#39;fast%26#39; trains - there are plenty of stopping trains in between.

I don%26#39;t know what the tour companies are charging, but the train costs about 4 Euros each way first class, which beats the bus hands down.

Check the posts on this - put %26#39;Kutna Hora%26#39; in the search box.

The same for Karlstejn - there is no reason to go with a tour company, other than to swell their coffers. The train goes all the time and costs EUR1.50 - it only takes 40 minutes, and when you get there it is obvious what to do. Martin Tour charges 35 Euros for something that should cost no more than 15, if that, if you do it by yourself.

I seem to remember that Martin Tour was the subject of a specific complaint on this board not long ago.

It%26#39;s up to you in the end!

:)

I try to find on www.idos.cz some trains from Prague to Karlovy Vary, Kutna J=Hora, Karlstejn Castle, Cesky Krumlov si Blansko but i failed. I don%26#39;t know how to use it :(((

Please, can you help me? I need a train leaving Prague in the morning and, for return, a train arriving to Prague aroun 19:00-20:00.

Thanks a lot!

If you look through the messages above I have given you most of the times you need. Otherwise http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/JRCis.asp is in English, and should be clear!
