Train travel

I want to get from Prague to Nurnberg, Germany by train on May 1. Anyone know anything about the service avaliable?

If you are on the net you probably know of this already, but you could look at http://www.seat61.com

English version of idos : jizdnirady.idnes.cz/JRCis.asp?tt=c%26p=MF%26cl=E5

However - be careful WVK and others - seat61 points you towards the Rail Europe site which will charge you US$220 and upwards for a journey that should only cost about US$70 (second class). In addition it doesn%26#39;t seem to know about the direct trains and send you on ridiculous journeys all over Germany. Stay well clear!

You can buy tickets at Prague main station on the day of departure, or even on the train itself. There will be no problem as these trains never %26#39;sell out%26#39;.

There are two direct trains from Prague Main Station (Hlavni Nadrazi) a day, at 0516 and 1316 - the journey takes 4 hours 53 minutes. The other options require several changes, which you should avoid if you are not familiar with European trains.

Hope this helps!

Otherwise the seat61 site is fine - it does have some useful general info, but don%26#39;t try to buy tickets on-line (especially not from Raileurope), unless it is from the national carrier itself. But it is much easier to get them at the station beforehand.

Thanks GCEK, I will take your advice.

Of course the reason I was looking at this was because I am planning a rail trip into and out of Prague myself. I will make an additional post to get details for that. Can you give me what else you know about that journey too please.

Cheers.

All I can tell you about that train is that it looks like this:

If you click on the %26#39;foto%26#39; links you can see what the carriages look like inside.

Let me know if there is anything else!
