Help Seeing the Best of Eastern Europe!

Hi Everyone,

I%26#39;m trying to spend 3-4 weeks seeing the Best of Eastern Europe! I%26#39;m thinking of visiting Krakow, Budapest, Dubrovnik, Bucharest, Brasov, Bran, Ljubljana, Bled, Prague, Chesky Krumlov. What kind of time is a %26#39;generally%26#39; good amount to spend in these cities? Are there some other great %26#39;must see%26#39; places that I should check out? Have I taken on too much? should I add places? Also, how can I tie these places together for cheap travel routes, where should I go first, second, what%26#39;s a good route through these destinations? Any help would be awesome.

Thanks

You%26#39;ve missed out the best of all - Brno http://www.brno.cz/index.php?lan=en !

There are a lot of miles involved here - you will be hard pushed to see all the above places and enjoy them, so something will have to give.

With the exception of Krakow, Dubrovnik and Cesky Krumlov, these places are pretty much on the same main rail route, so I would cut some of the %26#39;peripherals%26#39;, e.g. Bucharest and possibly Dubrovnik as you would probably have to fly from somewhere - unfortunate, as it is beautiful, but there are other beautiful places to see - the best ones are the places that nobody has heard of yet, or don%26#39;t give a chance to.

Where are you flying to and from? You will have to sort out your route first, as the order that you have the places above would be very difficult indeed :) If you gave an idea of this, it would be easier to advise you.

I always find that it is best not to plan too much for this sort of trip - if you like somewhere, stay a bit longer - I went to Brno, for example, and stayed for years.

I hope you have got a decent budget for this trip! Prague is getting expensive, and if you stick to %26#39;tourist traps%26#39; you will inevitably spend more, and certainly won%26#39;t see the %26#39;best%26#39; of central/eastern Europe - that is why I suggested Brno, which you will certainly enjoy. There is a lot to see in Slovakia as well, for example - there are some beautiful places and scenery there (High/Low Tatra mountains, etc), and there are places in Austria such as Graz which should not be overlooked.

Don%26#39;t let anyone tell you that you can %26#39;do%26#39; places like Cesky Krumlov in one day - you can%26#39;t, and if you do, you will just become one of the herd.

It all depends what you want from this trip - you can do a trip that will fill your photo album, but you will forget in years to come, or you can go to less %26#39;fashionable%26#39; places and remember them for the rest of your life.

Hope this helps, at least as a start!
