Day trip to Terezín Memorial

I will be traveling with my three kids - 14, 11, 8--and am thinking of doing a day trip to Terezín Memorial. Is it appropriate for the 8 and 11 year olds? Do we have to hire a private guide or can we go by ourselves and understand?

There will be guides at the camp that speak English and you won%26#39;t need a special guide.

There is no reason why your kids shouldn%26#39;t go as long as they understand that they are basically going to a concentration camp. My parents took me to Auschwitz and the like when I was 9 and I still remember the ovens. I appreciate that they took me though.

It won%26#39;t really take you a day though if you have a car. It%26#39;s about 90-120 min. each way and the tour will last about 2 hours.

Hope this helps!

Btw, Lidice is a little bit less %26quot;intense%26quot; a setting that Terezin if you are really worried about the content overwhelming your younger kids.

well I think that more than overwhelming the kids will find it boring. Terezin compared to Auschwitz (which is absolutely terrible place) is piece of cake. Terezin Little fortress wasn%26#39;t concentration camp but prison, most of the prisoners weren%26#39;t Jews. There were no gas chambers, nothing like that. Jews were living in the ghetto (which was the small town itself), but there are not much traces of it nowadays, especially after the floods of 2002 after which the place has been restored and lost something of it%26#39;s previous athmosphere. I think the kids would much better appreciate visit of ZOO which is brilliant with much better athmosphere.
