Cesky Krumlov

Hi guys! Thanks to Brewsta and Pivero and everyone with your great tips and advice on Prague!! Husband and I are going April 4th for 8 days- can%26#39;t wait! My question: someone told me about Cesky Krumlov- said it was really beautiful and we should try to see it. How far is it from Prague. Can we do a train there and back in one day or would a nights stay be more advisable? thanks!

It is doable as a daytrip but you would be missing the best times of the day - early morning and evenings. It is much more magical without the madding crowds! It is a stunning little place - one of my favourite towns in Europe.

Thanks Chefathome! Any hotel recommendations? Something like Pension Ingrid...$85 (1380czk)a nite? For real?!!! Thanks!

|||

I have several recommendations - I will look up their names and post them. We don%26#39;t stay in hotels but prefer B%26amp;B%26#39;s/Guesthouses - more charm and personality.

These are my top choices from personal experience (I have a list of about 20) in order:

1. Castleview - gorgeous rooms, many with lovely views, in old town centre. Literally feet away from a restaurant (great food) but it gets quiet at night.

2. Ve Vezi - in an old stone tower! Really cool - medieval-ish. Love it. Literally 2 minutes walk to old town centre.

3. Pension Kapr - great location on river, about 1 minute walk to old town centre, pretty rooms.

4. Skala - best breakfast. Absolutely gigantic. Nice rooms. However, it is on the main drag and a 10 minute walk from the old town centre.

All the above are 75 euros and less. When we were last there Castleview gave us a room for three nights for the price of two (in May).

Hey Chefathome! Thank you SOOOOO much for the great recommendations! Helps a lot! It looks simply beautiful- can%26#39;t wait to see it in person!

You are very welcome. It is a delightful little place. As much as I love Prague I would have to say I love CK a little more! :)

Hi again Chefathome! Im researching the %26#39;getting to%26#39; CK part of the trip....a bit nervous about the 3 hr bus ride with no bathroom. It does seem the easiest route-a straight shot there,but wondering if Im making a big deal out nothing??? Train seems a bit more complicated and much longer-5hrs??? Also, is it true we can basically walk from bus station into CK?? We%26#39;re walkers on all our trips so it%26#39;s fine with us as long as it%26#39;s not miles and miles!LOL!!! Thanks for your input!!

|||

Hi yourself! I am afraid I cannot help you on that as we always rent a car. To be honest I do not even know where the bus station is located in CK!

We, too, are walkers - we normally leave the car at the B%26amp;B and walk to where we%26#39;re going (unless it%26#39;s miles and miles).

|||

Thanks anyways! I think the bus will be the best option and I%26#39;ll just have to grin and bear it! ;)

Dear %26quot;bradycakes,%26quot;

I HAVE GREAT NEWS! For the last several weeks there is no longer a need to %26quot;grin and bear%26quot; it on the buses between Prague and Cesky Krumlov. The company %26quot;Student Agency%26quot; has placed air conditioned buses WITH toilets on this route several times a day. Their trip is faster than any other bus because of the limited stops. For complete details (and links to bus schedules) go to www.castleview.cz and look on the left side of the Home Page mid way down the page under %26quot;Getting Here.%26quot; There will be a link to a VERY detailed article called %26quot;How to get from Prague or its airport to Cesky Krumlov.%26quot;
