Overcharging at Hotels

I was interested to read on this forum an example of being overcharged following a stay in a hotel. We too were overcharged during our stay at Easter at Residence Verona Apartments. We stayed at these apartments for one night during our 3 night stay in Prague. We booked the room through laterooms.com at a rate of 80 euros per night which when converted should have been 1816 czech crowns. When we checked out we were asked for 2240 Czech crowns, which amounted to 99 euros. We did not realise this until after we had left the apartments. I would be interested to hear why people think this happened - is it to do with a licence somebody mentioned or is it just a downright con? I have written to the apartments last week and asked for an explanation but have not heard back.

This happens because of the strong crown - the hotels charging in Euro lose a lot of money. Not that that is an excuse. We have had this before here, please contact the Czech Commercial Inspection http://www.coi.cz/internet/(rvbjor45i1larpviyqbxkj45)/default.aspx

Thanks for these comments. I would say then they are very crafty charing in Euros on Late Rooms as they seem to be able to charge what they want we got charged approximately £14 more than we thought, which for one night is bearable (although not ideal) but I am just glad we did not stay there the whole 3 nights as this would have been a lot more than we budgeted for. I would have thought the Residence Verona also could have the courtesy to explain this via email when we wrote and queried it.

As CZ is in the EU, you should be able to insist on paying the currency and amount agreed at time of booking. You will lose on the currecy exchange but you can also gain.

A hotel cannot quote in Euros and then demand Crowns or visa versa IMO. You should have paid the Euro amount unless this agent had something in the small print.

A lesson to all, get confirmation from the hotel direct even if booking through an agent IMO.

I agree, will definitely learn from this when booking elsewhere! Thanks!

Hi

Just wanted to share my recent experience with attempts to book accommadation at Residence Verona for August this year using abaka.com.

In March I sent a booking request for a four night booking in August (10-14 August). I received an email back advising that they had a vacancy for my requested dates and the rate would be 90 Euro. As I hadn%26#39;t secured flights etc I held off booking confirming my booking. Yesterday I sent another request for the same dates i%26#39;d previously requested and the rate had changed to 130 Euro per night. When I questioned the hike in price they sent another email back reducing the rate to 110 Euro. However, it clearly states on the abaka website that the rate for the same period last year which they call %26quot;mid season%26quot; was 90 Euro. The rate can%26#39;t possibly have increased that much, or can it?

The problem is that the CZK koruna is so strong. The hotel may very well have the same CZK rate but it is more EUR compared to last year. Perhaps the third party sites are not up to date. I do agree in it not good that they try and charge you more on leaving day!
