Travel from Prague Airport to the "Old Town"

I am staying in the Old Town area in September.

Can anyone advise me on the best transport method in and to the airport.

The bus from the airport to a metro station seems like a good choice? Anyone used it? How long will it take?

All help gratefully received.

Bus and metro is very good choice. (30-45 minutes, price is 26 Kc = 1 Euro per person)

Metro line %26quot;A%26quot; and your exit station is Staromestska

TAXI is very expensive.

am thinking of going to Prague in July with my sister.

Will be staying at Intercontinental. What would be our best bet for transport from airport to this hotel? She thinks taxi, I am not so sure. Thanks for any good advice:) Also, we will be coming from USA so appreciate advice regarding necessary money exchange to cover immediate costs upon arrival!

Thank you..........

lovecayman - as you will be staying at the Intercontinental, which is one of the city%26#39;s most expensive hotels, then a taxi shouldn%26#39;t break the bank! Also the hotel should be able to lay on transport for you - the driver will meet you at the airport.

It is not exactly easily reachable by public transport from the airport, as you will need to change a couple of times and will need to get bus, then metro, then tram - taxi is probably your best best (although it does cost a lot more than public transport, of course).

Ok here it is. I was in Prague 2 weeks ago so maybe I can help with the answer of this question.

Assuming you don%26#39;t want to use taxi (peope say it%26#39;s very expensive):

The only other way to get to town from the airport is to take bus 100 to Zlicin metro station or bus 119 to Dejvicka metro station. Then take the metro from there. To do this, you will need a transfer ticket which costs 26 Czech Money which you can buy at the Public Transport Information booth at the arrival hall at the airport.

For each luggage larger than 25cm x 45cm x 70cm (10in x 18in x 28in), purchase a 13 Kč transfer ticket. Don’t forget to punch the ticket.

The journey from the airport to the first metro station would be around 30 minutes. From the first metro station to your designated metro station would not be too long. Roughly around 5 minutes from one stop to another (even less).

The bus stop is just outside across the arrival hall.

Zlicin is metro line B.

Dejvicka is metro line A.

Old town is reachable by both.

Staromestka is reachable by metro line A.

Lovecayman, if you don%26#39;t mind walking from the metro station to your hotel, then you can see my post above. Take the bus to Dejvicka Metro station then take the metro, get off at Staromestka.

You only have to change once (from bus to metro).

To change money... there is an ATM machine at the arrival hall. And I think there is also one (or more) Money Changer there.

Oh yeah... one more thing.

Intercontinental is not that far to walk from Staromestka Metro Station. Around 600-750 m.

At the exit of the airport there is a booth that is marked CEDAZ, the prices are cheap and posted on the window. They will take you directly to your hotel. It is a shuttle bus service.

Yeah, I took a taxi. The driver wore a suit and cufflinks. Played classical music on the way. Hmmm. Didn%26#39;t mind the fare, for %26#39;first visits%26#39; I always take the cab.....however, it did occur to me that what I paid probably reflected the quality of transport I received.

Hello Terry,

I would definately recommend the Bus/Metro and will use this form of transport again when I vist Prague next year. It is cheap, fast and reliable and puts the public transport system here in the UK to shame (at least in the NE anyhow).

I got bus 100 to the end of Line B and the same on the way back. It took about 50 minutes from getting on the bus to getting off at Nemesti Republiky (sp?) but the Metro is an experience within itself as the metro stations have a real Eastern European feel.

I hope you have a good time in Prague and don%26#39;t forget to buy the 1/2 price luggage tickets as already mentioned above.
