Train Safety

Hi. We leave Prague via the Holesovice Station to go to Vienna. We%26#39;ve never traveled by train in Europe before. What can we expect? is it safe? The train leaves at 1:30 pm. Thanks.

We have travelled from Prague to Salzburg by train this January. Czech Railways though not as clean as either Autrian or German is quite nice and you can easily travel second class without any hesitation whatsoever.

However if you have not bought your tickets already you might want to change trains once you are in Austria as you tend to get a cheaper ticket on OBB than if you book Czech railways or DB all the way to Vienna.

We were going to Salzburg and took a train from Prague to Ceske Boudovich and from ther changed trains to reach Linz. At Linz we changed onto OBB upto Salzburg which made our trip at least 40 Euros a head cheaper.

The above post is a bit confusing:)

There are plenty of direct trains from Prague to Vienna - no need to change on the way as that would make things very difficult for you. Just buy your ticket at Prague (c. 35 Euros) on the day and sit on the train to Vienna, 4.5 hours away. Nothing will happen to you. Both the Czech Republic and Austria are quite civilised and safety is not an issue. It should cost c. 35 Euros, 50 if you go first class.

The train from Prague to Vienna will be a Eurocity and as such will be just as clean as anything the Austrians provide (indeed it might be an Austrian train).

I don%26#39;t know why your ticket cost so much less, noboundaries! You must have bought your initial ticket on Raileurope!! Then again, if you are going to do a complicated journey like Prague - Salzburg, then it might be better to do it that way - the usual price for that journey is only 43 Euros, anyway!

The train is the most safe and most comfortable way to travel. All EC and SC trains between Prague and Vienna are very comfortable, have all what you need (of course a/c, most have a restaurant car but take your own drinks and snacks... especially the drinks are expensive onboard).

The SC are very modern czech tilting trains (so a bit faster than the EC trains) but require a small surcharge. Just take the train which has the best times...

In the %26quot;products%26quot; section, choose %26quot;only direct connections%26quot;.

Travelling via train! It%26#39;s fun. It%26#39;s easy. Sometimes English-speaking passengers will find each other and chat along the way.

I took the train from Vienna to Prague. Looking out the window - there were acres upon acres of tall, vibrant orange sunflowers blooming. Spectacularly beautiful! Previously, I had only see a few sunflowers grown in my neighbor%26#39;s yard. My jaw dropped as I looked out the window.

Along the route, several of us fell into conversation. It was great comparing laws, we talked about police in UK and firearms (working? not working?). Between us, there were a couple Americans, French, British, and a German. Between the group of us, we happily figured out nearly all of the world%26#39;s problems (with via solutions, mind) within two hours. Smile.

It%26#39;s a great trip, though a long distance. Bring food and water. You don%26#39;t want to pay the very high train prices. Last, if you%26#39;re concerned about luggage, bring it in the car and store it on the rack above your seats. Have a great time!
