Advice on good hotel in Brno ??

I am seeking advice about accomadations in the center city of Brno. This will be our first trip to Brno, and we will be staying for 2 weeks of. A party of 2 late 30%26#39;s with no kids from USA. We can spend up to US $200/night. Can someone recommmend a tour guide / interpreter, sights we must see ?? Any spa hotels ??

For that amount you can really push the boat out, and I would recommend Hotel Royal Ricc which just about comes into your budget - but be careful, don%26#39;t go to Brno during any of the trade fairs or the Grand Prix or you will pay double everywhere. These periods are as follows:

MOTO GP (15.08. – 17.08.2008)

MSV (15.09. – 19.09.2008)

IBF (22.04. – 26.04.2008)

AUTOTEC (04.06. – 08.06.2008)

INVEX (07.10. – 11.10.2008)

Here is the hotel website. www.romantichotels.cz/hotel-royal-ricc/en/

Otherwise, if you prefer something a bit more %26#39;homely%26#39; (but no great luxury), then Hotel pod Spilberkem is quite acceptable www.hotelpodspilberkem.cz/data/menu_en.html - the same applies with prices.

Stay clear of the Hotel Slavia, unless you are after a bit of communist period nostalgia, and the Grand Hotel is a bit impersonal.

There are no spa hotels that I know of in the city.

I can get you a tour guide/interpreter no problem. Just send me the dates, etc, and your details by PM and I will sort something out for you.

I second the recommendation for the hotel Ricc. It really is the nicest for non-business types. The Hotel International is a very business hotel full of Brits and Americans. Go with the Ricc!

The nearest spa to Brno is just over the border in Austia at Laa. It%26#39;s very popular with local and very organized and a great day trip from Brno.

For info on Laa and everything else that is going on in Brno, chech out czech4you.com. The woman who runs this site, Helena, can act as interpreter, tour guide, etc for anything you need. When we moved to Brno a year ago we hired her to help us with the contract for our apartment. Her English is perfect and she%26#39;s very helpful when you know nothing! If nothing else, her website is always updated with the latest about what is going on in Brno, as well as restaurant/hotel recommendations.

Brno is a great city! You%26#39;ll love it!
