Hi all. I was just wondering if one has to take a tour to visit the castle or we can wander around the castle at our pace?
The website only gives price for long- and short-tour.
Also, 2 of the views in the castle seem to be closed this year? Is this true?
Thank you.

Having been twice, we just bought a good guide book and wondered at our own pace, sometime tagging along behind tour groups and listening in. Try some of the walking tours of the whole city they are good.

I%26#39;ve visited Prague Castle a number of times. Entry to the castle courtyards is free. Apart from that there are six different tickets which are valid for two days and give you entry into different sights.
Ticket A - St. Vitus%26#39; Cathedral, Great Tower, Old Royal Place, Golden Lane and Daliborka.
Ticket B - Cathedral, Great Tower, Old Royal Palace, Golden Lane and Daliborka
Ticket C - Golden Lane and Daliborka
Ticket D - Basilica of St. George only
Ticket E - Powder Tower only
Ticket F - Convent of St. George only
There are guided tours or you can make your own way around. There are also audioguides in a number of languages for rent.

The cathedral is free of charge now at least the 2 times I visited there, Nov %26amp; Christmas 2007. The ticket office then became just an information window. Before that I remember I paid czk100, I think. Oh, yes, so you can visit the place on your own.
I don%26#39;t understand what %26quot;2 of the views%26quot; being closed.

Carrsmill, I just noticed you came back from Prague recently. Then, you had to pay the entrance to the cathedral again?

Hi kat1
We took a stroll on Saturday afternoon of last week through the Castle grounds but didn%26#39;t actually go into any of the buildings this time. As we%26#39;d been around everything several times before and as it was a nice day weather wise, we stayed outdoors. It had always been free to go into the nave of the Cathedral but you had to pay to access other parts of it. I%26#39;ve just done a bit of research and it seems that since April of last year all entrance fees to the Cathedral were removed when the Czech State took it over from the Catholic Church after a lengthy legal battle. As it%26#39;s now open to everyone (although it seems that numbers of visitors are being regulated), the Cathedral is no longer included in the Castle tours. This link has some information about the changes.

I don%26#39;t know how far inside you mean by %26quot;nave of the cathedral%26quot; but before my last 2 trips I mentioned above, the entrance-free part was only the first part close to the entrance so you couldn%26#39;t go e.g. as far as where Mucha%26#39;s glass window was. That%26#39;s where I meant you used to pay czk 100 to go beyond and all the way to the back and also including the tower on your left. Since the entrance fees you posted above on your first post included %26quot;cathedral%26quot; but in reality it had been completly free since about 6 months or so, that%26#39;s what I wanted to clafify.

The nave is the central area of a church, bordered by side aisles and is usually the space in which the congregation sits.
Up to April 2007 there was a charge to visit parts of the cathedral other than the nave, and the cathedral was included in the castle tours.
Since April 2007 there is no longer any charge to visit any part of the cathedral (it%26#39;s open to anyone) and the cathedral is no longer included in the castle tours.
The list of ticket options I posted earlier dates from early 2007, that%26#39;s why it includes the cathedral. I%26#39;ve since clarified that it no longer does.
I%26#39;m sure the good folk of Prague Castle will point this out to any unsuspecting visitor who attempts to purchase a ticket which includes the cathedral. Hope this clarifies things for you.
