From Prague to Vienna by train

Please let me know if these prices are reasonable from prague to vienna for:

- first class is 1,296CZK and

- second class is 855CZK

Are these prices the going rate as if you would purchase from the train station? Also how different is it between the 2 classes - is it worth buying 1st class at all just for more luxury or is it for safety reasons?? also i was told for another 86CZK i could have my seats reserved? would that in itself be necessary? if you have already purchased the ticket - why would you need to reserve these seats - overcrowded perhaps?

I would really very much appreciate people%26#39;s advise on this.

Thanks

the prices seem to be alright. no need to buy first class tickets. no need to reserve seats. no worries about safety...

I%26#39;ve been on this train loads of times and there have never been any problems.

You can buy these tickets from the station before you leave, maybe saving a little bit if you do so - don%26#39;t bother buying them on-line - I doubt whether that is possible anyway as nobody does it.

It will look like this in 2nd class: www.vagonweb.cz/fotogalerie/CD/CD_Bmz.php

Or like this in first: www.vagonweb.cz/fotogalerie/CD/CD_Ampz.php

As Heinokules says - don%26#39;t worry - it is only a train! It is actually quite a civilised part of the world as well :)

We will also be taking this train from Prague to Vienna in mid June, and the uncertainties worry me a bit. We will have luggage with us and are 2 women traveling together. It looks like we could maybe fit our luggage under our seats? Is that correct? I must have non-smoking due to asthma. Do we just show up at the train station half an hour before or so and buy tickets? Would second class be better with luggage (maybe more cars to choose from?). Do these trains ever sell out in the summer?

Thanks for your advise.

Read the posts above!

- the only problem with luggage is getting it up onto the train as there are a few steps up. However, the menfolk in this part of the world are usually very chivalrous and somebody will help you out.

- You won%26#39;t be able to fit your luggage under the seats. If you are in a compartment and get to the train early enough (if it starts in Prague) or are lucky, you can plonk yourselves in a compartment and leave your luggage on the floor. If you want to stow it, there are luggage racks above your head.

- There will be more space in first class as fewer people travel that way.

- Smoking on trains is very limited and is highly frowned upon in non-smoking carriages - smoking and non-smoking carriages are easily differentiated by the symbol by the door.

- You can buy your tickets on the train if you want. I have been on that train loads of times and have never reserved a seat beforehand. It would have to be something pretty unusual for it to be %26#39;sold out%26#39; - I don%26#39;t know anybody who reserves seats!

If you want to know where to stand in order to get the carriage that you want (1st class, non-smoking, etc), each platform has a board showing the layout of the train. In addition, to make it even easier, the announcements will all be in English.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for everyone%26#39;s response, i feel alot wiser now..haha

have a nice day all

the prices was actually quoted by my hotel.

|||

Are the prices that you listed for one way fares?

Instead of starting a new thread, would anyone know the price of tickets to get to Krakow?

|||

About 29 Euros, plus supplements for couchette/sleeper if you take the night train (c. 13 Euros for couchette, ? 20 Euros for a sleeper)

|||

yes they are for one way only - so is it alright to purchase them from the train statoin on the day of departure? my hotel will charge me a handling fee of 5% on top of the quoted price.

|||

Why let them cash in? You could do this perfectly well yourself - it is quite straightforward!

But if you are willing to let them take so much money for five minutes%26#39; work, then use the hotel service :) All you do is go to the international ticket sales counter, where they will probably understand what you want.

For first class, say or write down %26#39;PRVNÍ TŘÍDA%26#39; when buying the ticket (second class will taken as read). You can even buy the ticket on the train if all else fails.

I suppose for peace of mind it is OK, but it seems quite a hefty commission. Now you mention it, the prices you quoted do appear to have a bit %26#39;extra%26#39; in them.
