After reading some of the posts, it appears that the Student Bus is the best bet.
Once there however, how about getting around, etc. Is a guide necessary there?

A guide is not necessary.
Also,look at the regular bus lines to CK.

Some may originate from Florenc Bus Terminal but
they could also originate from Roztly Metro stop.

Cesky Krumlov is a very small town and you will not have a problem by yourself.
If you would like to find out more about the town you can hire an audio guide from tourist information.
There are tours of the castle in English, go early in the day to book the tour because the tours are sometimes only once every 2 hours, so if you book in advance you can plan you day round it.
