One more question from me!!!! re: grocery stores in Prague??

Hi guys-yup, me again! Concerning the post about %26quot;water and coffee%26quot; being so expensive...can anyone recommend a grocery store to buy water and any other small necessities (ie:wine,chocolate,etc!!) that might arise!We will be at the Eurostars David, Naplavni 6. Many thanks!

Naplavni is not that far from Narodni Trida a big metro /tram interchange,there is a Huge Tesco there and you should get everything you need there.on the street level is a smaller grocery area which is probably fine for what you need but downstairs in the basment area is a much larger supermarket.

Thanks Unclegus! Hey, Smithwicks and Guinness are my fav beers- any chance of getting those in Prague?!

|||

you wil get Guinness in all the Irish bars (there are several) don%26#39;t know about Smithwicks.the beer is so good in Prague that you will so forget about any other beers.

Put beer into the search box on the top right of the forum and you will see numerous threads on the subject of beer,we all have aour favourites,but really there ar so many good ones just go out and try as many as you can,you will not be dissapointed.

|||

Yeah, I was reading a lot of them- the one from GoodPikey in Ireland titled %26quot;Best Beer in Prague%26quot; really got you guys going!! LOL!! Looking forward to the whole experience! Thanks!

|||

one word of warning,the beer in Prague can be quite a bit stronger than the American beers,just be careful out there!Enjoy.

Bottled water in grocery stores is not that expensive - c. 8-11 crowns for 1.5 litres (DobrĂ¡ voda), neither are your other necessities as specified above, and bottled beer is much cheaper there as well. Price varies from 1 crown/bottle for some rubbish on special offer in a supermarket up to 30 for something posh - average about 12 crowns in the smaller places (in Globus it is about 8.90 a bottle - Budvar, Gambrinus, etc) - remember you get a deposit back on each bottle so don%26#39;t chuck it when you have finished! (you can return it anywhere) The only problem is to get it cold . You could tie some string around the top and dangle it in the Vltava, but that takes a while.

If you%26#39;re not sure which czech beer you like, try the brewery tour. It was highly recommended to us, but we ran out of time at Xmas.

It%26#39;s on the to do list for when we go back Aug/Sept.

Thanks everyone! As far as getting it cold.. I usually do my old trick of filling the sink with ice from the hotel, sometimes taking several trips to the ice machine! LOL!! Thanks again for the great info.- Brady

what a question!, its like if i went to Florida asking on this forum and worried about groceries. ok, once again, as in every city in the world prices in heart of city are generally much higher than in regular shops or supermarkets. Eg. here in Sydney are plenty of convenience stores (more than in Prague) but in Prague is more classic supermarkets, i dare say...

So, shop in supermarkets (can be out of city) as long as you care about cost.

Prague is NOT ONLY THE CITY (Prague 1 and partly Prague 2). Trust me, real Czech people live out of city. Dont be afraid to get out of there - public transport is so easy, doesnt take long to get for example from city to Kacerov or Andel.
