Hotel Sovereign

Has anyone stayed at this hotel - i understand it is fairly new and hence no written review here. just wondering airport transfer to hotel as quoted by the hotel itself for Euro27 - is this a reasonable?

would also appreciate any feedback re this hotel, the location and reputation etc

many thanks as always

Hi, I can only tell you something about location, I am often walking in this area and I know that hotel - only from the exterior, of course.

I know one of the entrance to that hotel leads directly into passage on Wenceslas Square, it looks like very interesting from that side and you have very good starting point (close to Main railway station, close to subway stations and the tramway stops, close to main Post office, ...). It is in the New Town, so if you prefer to stay in the Old Town, then you instead choose another hotel.

...later, I would like to ask you about some hotel information in HongKong :-)) because I am going there in the summer.

|||

hi there majkp- thanks for your reply. i have already booked this hotel so i better like it, although too bad it is not near the old town which of course i would prefer, is it a long way from the old town and charles bridge?

you can ask me anything you like about HK as long as i know the answer i am more than willing to help. btw summer in HK is generally unbearable...the humidity is so high and the temp is already in its mid 30s - if you are not used to hot weather than you will find it intolerable...

btw how much would it generally cost from airport to hotel - wondering if i should just catch a normal taxi instead of the hotel car.

|||

Hi, no its no so bad, you just walk about 20 minutes to reach Charles Bridge - because your hotel stay on the edge of the New Town (the edge is the street Na Prikope), so you are practically at the center. See the map, for example http://www.mapy.cz.

And sorry for that my information about passage entry, this is at the next-door hotel Yasmin.

Normal taxi price from the airport to Wenceslas Square is about 500 - 600 Kc. For example: http://www.aaataxi.cz/ So I think your taxi price is not so bad. (1 euro is about 25 czech crowns) = 27x25 = 675 czech crowns. But, if you want to save your money, take bus no. 119 from the airport to subway Dejvicka and then to subway station Mustek = all for price 26 czech crowns = 1 euro, so you can save 26 euro :-) if you want...

Yes, I know that HK is very hot in the summer, but now I am too tired from this neverending cold in Prague, so I just want to travel to some hot and sunny destination :-)

= prices of taxi from the airport to central Prague.

hey many thanks again for your response. taking the bus and train sounds good but after so many hours of travelling already - i think i would rather be lazy and take the easy option - being taxi.

could i trouble further... after a couple days in prague i will be leaving for vienna by train - would you happen to know what train i should be taking and the price, i would prob be leaving in the afternoon - i hear from others that it takes about 6 hours on the train, is this correct?

btw which hotel in hong kong will you be staying at?

|||

Hi, here is timetable of czech railways:

jizdnirady.idnes.cz/connform.asp…

So you can see it is Eurocity train no. 173 and 177 and it takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes, leaving from Prague, station Holesovice (not main station! but it is only a few station by subway to Holesovice) at 13:33, next at 17:33. Or you take overnight train from main station, leave at 22:06 and in Vienna at 6:03 morning.

I do not know the price, last time I was in Vienna by train it is a long time...

But another thing is, if Vienna is good enough. Maybe Salzburg is better and in Czech rep. there are also nice towns like Prague: Tabor, Kutna Hora, etc ...it is funny, that a lots of tourists dont know it.

Now I have only airticket to HongKong from London, so I need all further information...probably the most I want to know is the health situation in HK: is there dengue fever risk? malaria? other?

And I prefer smaller hotels, characteristic for a that place, I dont like chain of hotels (Ibis, etc.) The smaller, the better :-) Please, have you any tips?

hi there, thanks for all your info - i will check it out soon.

about hong kong, it has to be said it is one of the safest place for a tourist that is if you dont fall into a typical tourist trap. as for health wise, lately it is becoming quite a prob with the ongoing flu influenza spreading around but generally just be careful what you eat and do and take a lot of vitamins and supplements - you will be fine. I%26#39;ve lived here for so long and rarely get sick...touch wood. If you are really concerned then consult your doctor and request for a vaccination shot.

Hotels here generally belong to the chain/group type and they are not cheap either, HK have abundance of tourists for all seasons but definitely the best season to come is autumn. The repulse bay hotel is pretty conlonial and prob expensive too, cant really think of a great hotel but there sure are a plentiful here. of course one the better hotel in my opinion is the peninsula on the kowloon side. anyways let me think about the hotels here and let you know soon ok.
